Description
This is a late 18th century red brick house, known as Lewesford House, with a basement and three upper stories. The front facade presents a smooth, unbroken surface up to a moulded stone cornice, concealing the roof behind a plain parapet. It has five windows per floor, set in plain reveals; the ground floor windows have been reglazed with four large panes of glass. A set of four stone steps leads to a classically designed pedimented doorcase, which features semi-engaged Ionic columns framing a round-headed alcove containing the front door (with four fielded panels in the upper half) and a fanlight. Iron railings with spear and urn finials enclose the property. A matching iron gate provides access. The front gate and railings form a group value context with numbers 41 and 43, and the front railings of number 43.
