Description
This is an aisled barn dating from the 16th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It features a timber frame set on a base of brick laid in English bond and is covered with weatherboarding and a slate roof. The barn consists of four bays and has double doors on both sides in the third bay from the house. At the rear, there is a loft door and a 19th-century stock brick pigsty enclosed by a low brick wall. The barn has additions on both gable ends; the side facing away from the house is built of red brick, while the side facing the house is weatherboarded and has stock brick, incorporating some large timbers in the rear wall. Inside, there are jowled arcade posts with braces, some of which are curved, supporting the tie beams. Curved braces extend from the arcade posts to the arcade plates, with some passing braces connecting through the aisle ties and arcade posts to the tie beams. Brick plinths cross the aisles to the arcade posts. The roof was rebuilt in the 19th century, featuring angled queen struts that clasp the purlins.
