Description
Nos. 81A and 81B are part of the rear outshoot of No. 81, dating from the 16th century, but they were significantly altered in the 1980s when converted into office suites. The building is timber-framed, with colourwashed brick on the ground floor and red brick on the gable end, while the upper part is plastered. It has old tiled roofs and is two storeys high. The ground floor features two modern half-glazed doors beneath gabled heads supported by timber brackets, along with two modern casement windows. The upper floor has irregular fenestration, including a modern glazed 16th-century caveletto mullioned three-light window at the top left and a long three-light timber window at the upper right. The building has a four-bay plan, with braced tie-beams and exposed studs visible inside, as well as a braced side purlin roof. This range was originally part of The Checker Inn, associated with the frontage of No. 81.
