Description

This is a complex of stables and a carthouse, dating to the 18th century. Originally a single-story stable, it was updated in the early 19th century when a six-bay, open-fronted carthouse was added at a right angle to the east end. The stable is built of pink brick in English bond, with a grey brick facade, and has a steep, hipped roof covered with old red tiles. The carthouse features a timber arcade along its open west front, with decorative boarding above, and now has a roof made of asbestos cement. The L-shaped arrangement encloses a farmyard, adjacent to a gate leading to the road. The stable includes four stable doors and two-light windows, all set under gauged brick flat arches. Internally, it retains a roof structure with clasped purlins, an internal partition, and timber framing clad in weatherboarding. It forms part of the farmyard buildings at Briggens Home Farm.
