Description
Manufactory House is a manfactory and warehouse with a cottage in the rear yard, now used as offices. It was built around 1827, as indicated by the initialled bricks 'GN', 'WN' 1827 on the cottage, and 'RN' 1827 on the main building. The property was converted to offices and extended at the rear in the 1970s. It features yellow stock bricks in Flemish bond, a Welsh slated roof with lead roll hips, and a cast-iron structure.
The exterior consists of three storeys. The first floor has four multi-light small paned cast-iron windows set beneath segmental arches, while the second floor has half-length similar windows. A plat band at the first-floor level displays raised lettering that reads 'MANUFACTORY HOUSE'. The ground floor has three windows and a modern three-panel door located in the second bay from the left. The right-hand bay originally had a loading door on the first floor, and an iron bracket for a hoist remains in place. Access to the rear yard is provided through a tunnel beneath the end of the Bell Lane frontage of No. 18 Fore Street. A 20th-century link connects to the former cottage at the rear, which is also included in the listing. The interior has not been inspected.
