Description
The stable block at Amersfort, located to the north of the house, was built in 1911 by Ernest Willmott for W.S. Cohen. Originally designed as a stable block, it has since been converted into flats. The building features narrow plum brick in English garden wall bond, accented with red brick dressings and tile arches. The first floor is adorned with red tile-hanging, and the structure is topped with tall hipped red tile roofs.
The stable block is arranged in a separate L-shaped configuration, consisting of a single-storey stable range on the north side that faces south, and a two-storey coachhouse range on the east side, which includes a round-arched carriageway. The lower stable range has a gablet on its hipped roof, a square lantern with pigeon holes at two levels, and a vane on the tiled roof. The southern side of the building is mostly set back to shelter the stable doors and create a covered way leading to the taller block.
On the west side of the taller block, there is a Dutch gable on the chimney, along with a two-light round-headed window and a circular window below it. The coachhouse features a projecting flat moulded canopy above three oak plank doors. This stable block complements the main house and reflects the architectural style of the early 20th century.
