Description
The Leverstock Green War Memorial is a tribute to those who served in the First and Second World Wars, erected in 1921 with names from the Second World War added after 1945. It is made of carved granite and features bronze plaques.
Located on a green next to Church Road near Holy Trinity Church, the memorial consists of a flaming grenade atop the capital of an octagonal rough-hewn granite column, which has a moulded base. The grenade is made of granite, while the flame is crafted from bronze. A bronze longsword is placed on the front (southeast) face of the column, which stands on an octagonal plinth with a two-tier stepped base.
The front face of the plinth displays a bronze plaque inscribed with: "THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1918/ 'THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE'/ [NAMES]." On the northwest face of the plinth, another plaque reads: "TO THE/ GLORIOUS DEAD/ 1939 – 1945/ THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE/ [NAMES]." The plinth lists 29 names of the Fallen from the First World War and nine names from the Second World War.
