Description

The pump and lamp post facing Boxmoor Hall is a cast-iron obelisk erected in October 1835 to commemorate the third centenary of the first printing of the English Bible. It features an inscription that includes a quotation. The obelisk is panelled and ornamented, and it has a later shell pattern water basin. At the top, there are four upstanding openwork consoles that support a ladder bar carrying a hexagonal tapered lantern with a finial. This piece was cast by Joseph Cranston of Hemel Hempstead.
