Description

This is an early 18th-century house, extended in 1912 for Lord Brownlow and later used as a butcher’s shop. It is a long, one-and-a-half storey building facing south, with a matching 20th-century single-story rear extension at the northwest end. The construction is timber frame with a brick sill, with the timber frame exposed on the south side and red brick infill, and a brick gable facing west. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with old red tiles. The south front has diagonal bracing to the timber frame, three small casement windows, a gabled dormer in the eaves, and a pitched hood over the boarded front door. An internal chimney is located in the eastern part of the building, while a rear wall chimney is in the western part. The west gable has a three-light casement window, both to the attic and ground floor, and a boarded door under a pitched hood on the right-hand side.
