Description

Barn. The barn dates to the late 14th century, with alterations in the 17th century. It is timber framed and partially weatherboarded, with sections of corrugated asbestos cladding. The gable ends are plastered, and the roof is covered in red plain tiles. The barn comprises ten bays, formerly aisled on both sides, but now only retaining an aisle to the south. Eight bays of the original frame feature double-braced, cantered tie beams, arcade posts without joints, and curved arcade bracing. The roof is a mid-17th century design, incorporating flat collars and raking struts. Other 17th-century features include intermediate flat tie beams, fixed to the arcade plates with iron straps, and a six-bay extension constructed using re-used timber. Original halved and bridled arcade plate scarfs are present.
