Description
The Village School is a red brick building with stone dressing, constructed in 1862. It is a well-preserved example of its period, remaining almost completely unaltered. The structure features a central block flanked by gabled wings at both the east and west ends, each with stopped gables. Most of the windows are original iron latticed casements. The west wing includes a large Gothic traceried window and a clock above it, inscribed with "V.R." and the dates 1837 and 1887. The front of the building has two projecting gabled porches. The roof is tiled and has three octagonal shafted chimney stacks. Additionally, the east wing has a central dormer window with a stopped gable, while the west wing features a small bellcote.
