Description

Broad Leys is a house dating from the early to mid 16th century. It is constructed with a timber frame and rendered exterior, topped by a hipped thatched roof. The building is generally two storeys high, featuring a lean-to thatched extension at the east end, along with a single-storey porch and outbuildings from the 20th century at both the front and rear. The windows are 19th century casements, and there is a small red brick ridge line stack that is off-centre. Inside, the house showcases an unusual and fairly complete 16th century timber framed open hall house design, with an 'in-line' plan form consisting of a two-bay hall, with bays at each end serving as solar/parlour and service rooms, and a simple crown post roof. A floor and stack were inserted in the late 18th century.
