Description
The Roost is a mid-17th century house located on Newbiggen Street in Thaxted. It is timber framed and plastered, topped with a red plain tile roof. The timber frame is exposed at the front, and the house was originally jettied at the south end, which has since been underbuilt. The building has two storeys and features a front that has been partially rebuilt and extended to the north. There is a five-window range of 19th century double hung vertical sliding sashes with glazing bars. The central entrance has a door with a head and sidelights that include diamond mullions. Additionally, there is a bow window at the north end and an original red brick chimney stack.
