Description
The main building on the east side of the track at Audley End Railway Station was built around 1845 by Francis Thompson, a railway architect known for his work in the early 19th century, including Chester Station. The building is a rectangular structure made of yellow gault brick, featuring a parapet and an ornamental stucco band. It has two storeys, with three windows on the west and east fronts and one window on the north and south ends. The windows are double-hung sashes with semi-circular heads set in stucco architraves. The east front includes a covered carriage approach with corresponding stucco arches and coursed pillars. The west front features a 20th-century platform canopy, which lacks a fascia, supported by original cast iron ornamental brackets.
