Description
No. 4 Stoney Lane is a three-storey town house dating from around 1410. It features jettied floors and is constructed from timber framing with plaster. The house faces Stoney Lane and has a red plain tile roof. It retains its original cellars and has leaded casement windows, many of which are in their original openings, along with some original traceried window heads. There is a bow window on the ground floor and a repaired 15th-century door. The carved jetty brackets have spandrels that were formerly supported by pilasters, of which only the moulded capitals remain. The house has a gabled facade facing the street and a 16th-century red brick chimney stack. Inside, the timber frame is exposed, showcasing stop-chamfered beams, jowled storey posts, cambered tie beams, and crown post roofs. The ground floor framing over the cellar is original, and there are original four-centred arches and some 15th or 16th-century vertical boarded doors. The original staircase features solid oak treads.
