Description
33 Church Street is a house from the late 18th century, likely with earlier origins. The front is made of gault brick, which is partly painted, and features red brick dressings along with a gabled clay plain tile roof. The building has two storeys with attics and two gabled dormers, as well as two stacks that are placed irregularly. The front elevation includes a red brick projecting band between the storeys and a moulded red brick cornice. There is a four-window range of flush double-hung sashes that have gauged, slightly arched brick heads and small panes. Below the windows and in the parapet above, there are slightly recessed apron panels. The off-centre doorcase has an eared architrave, panelled reveals, a Gothick frieze panel, and a pediment, with console-shaped lateral projections at the outer edges of the entablature. The contemporary six-panel door has glazing in the upper two panels.
Inside, there is a narrow early 19th-century corner cupboard with four shelves and an arched head. The windows still have internal folding shutters, and some old doors and simple panelling remain. The rear arch to the entrance passage features a timber keystone and moulded impost and bases, which have been repaired. At the back, there is a projecting painted brick extension with a hipped clay plain tile roof.
