Description
The stable and outhouse block, located approximately 10 meters northeast of Friary East, dates from the early 19th century and is now part of a Youth Centre. It is constructed of red brick, featuring both Flemish bond and Flemish Garden Wall bond.
The exterior consists of a single-storey range with a hipped slate roof, alongside a two-storey range at right angles, which has a half-hipped slate roof. The single-storey section includes three double-hung sash windows with 16 panes each, a door, a wider door opening, and a two-light casement window. There is a noticeable change in the brickwork about halfway along the length of the building. On the west elevation, there is a 20th-century four-light window set in an old large opening. The north elevation features a door and two 20th-century windows that overlook the garden. At the west end, there is an entrance with a hood supported by late 17th or early 18th century carved consoles, plain pilasters, and a door with small panes and margin glazing, along with two flush panels. A chimney pot is positioned on the ridge.
The two-storey block has two gabled dormers on its west front that continue the slope of the wall, with pointed brick arches over two-light windows, one of which is blocked. The upper floor has a loft door now fitted with a 20th-century window in the opening, and the door is fixed open. The ground floor features a wide, blocked segmental opening, a small blocked pointed arched opening (possibly for kennels), and two pointed arched openings—one serving as a door and the other as a two-light window. Additionally, there is a two-light small-paned casement, two further openings, and a high-level three-light fixed window.
The interior has not been inspected. Notably, on the north-west corner of the property, there is a fluted cast-iron gate post with a conical top, accompanied by a pair of wrought-iron gates.
