Description

Great Tawney Hall is a 17th century house featuring a double range construction. It has a timber frame and a weatherboarded and plastered rear, with a red brick front that dates from the late 18th to early 19th century. The house has a red plain tiled roof and stands two storeys high, topped with a stone coped parapet. The front has a five-window range with recessed surrounds, small paned vertical sliding sashes that have horns, and gault brick gauged arches above them.

Access to the entrance is via seven steps that have plain baluster rails with acorn finials, leading to a six-panelled door that is recessed and topped with a four-segmented fanlight and a round head surround. There are stone brackets supporting a flat canopy above the door. The house features four symmetrically placed red brick chimney stacks, and the right return is hung with red tiles. Inside, there are large stop-chamfered bridging joists in each room. A rainwater pipe on the building is dated 1762. The hall is located adjacent to a moated site.
