Description
Seven Arches Cottage is a house dating from the early 17th century. It is timber framed with a rendered and colourwashed facade, and has a plain tiled roof. The south-facing front is two stories high with a two-window range. A glazed door was inserted in the late 20th century to the right of centre, set behind a gabled brick and stud porch. The ground floor has a three-light casement window to the left and a two-light casement window to the right, both from the late 20th century. The first floor has two two-light UPVC casement windows. The roof is gabled to the east and hipped to the west, with a central brick ridge stack incorporating lower courses of 17th-century brick. A pear orchard extends to the front, with a catslide roof and three top-hung casements, plus a half-glazed door, all inserted in the late 20th century. Late 20th-century casements and French doors are located on the east and west returns. The interior retains an intact timber frame, with chamfered bridging beams and plain joists. The framing includes a middle rail and arched braces to the tops of the principal corner studs. The central fireplaces have been largely rebuilt in the 20th century.
