Description

Gable House is an early 14th century timber-framed crosswing, with later modern extensions to the east and west. It is two storeys high, with a jettied and gable-fronted design featuring a red plain tile roof. Modern casement windows are now in place. The original timber frame is largely complete inside, although the partition between the buttery and pantry has been removed. Original features include heavy flat section floor joists and arched wall bracing. The structure incorporates jowled storey posts. The roof is of a short 2-armed crown post construction, featuring arch braced and chamfered, cambered tie beams. The top plate scarfs are simple with splayed ends and under-squinted abuttments.
