Description
Rails Farmhouse is a 16th-century timber-framed and plastered house with an L-shaped plan, featuring a cross wing at the east end. The upper storey of the cross wing juts out on the north front. The building has two storeys, and the windows on the north front are 18th-century double-hung sashes with glazing bars, arranged in a three-window range. The ground storey windows are three-light. On the first storey of the cross wing, there are two original small three-light windows with moulded mullions. The roof is tiled and hipped at the south end of the crossing. A large external chimney breast is located on the east side, which has an embattled offset and two square shafts set diagonally. Inside, the farmhouse features exposed timber-framing and a four-centered arched open fireplace. Rails Farmhouse, along with Rain Farmhouse, The Windmill Inn, The Post Office, and The Old Forge, forms a group, with The Post Office being a building of local interest.
