Description

The granary, located 10 meters north of Queen Mary Chapel, is a building dating from around 1800. It is constructed of red brick, featuring some burnt headers, and has a low pitched roof covered with peg tiles. The structure has a square plan and is raised on square-sectioned Portland stone staddles with overhanging caps. Underneath, there are brick double-arched tunnel vaults accessible from each face of the building.

On the northwest face, there is a principal original doorway that is round-headed and framed with gauged brick voussoirs. The original door is made of boards with bead-decorated edges and has a small roof projection above it. The southeast face has a 20th-century doorway that has been cut into the original aperture, also framed with gauged brick voussoirs. This door is of a 'stable' type, featuring a lower recessed panel and upper glazing with glazing bars arranged in a 3x3 pane configuration.

The northeast and southwest faces both include windows with glazing bars, with the northeast having a 2-light casement and the others featuring fixed 2x2 panes. Inside, the granary has butted, joggled side purlins, crossed tie-beams, and raking queen struts. The original strap hinges are still present on the back of the principal door. The granary, Queen Mary Chapel, and the Lodge to Rochetts form a group of historically significant buildings.
