Lodge cottage. Early C19, extended c1988. Gault brick in Flemish bond, roofed with slate. C-plan, comprising a main range aligned NW-SE and an entrance wing to NE, with an internal stack at the junction. Each of the 3 ends is splayed to form a semi-hexagon. To the SW a C20 extension, square with chamfered corners is connected to the original cottage by a short glazed corridor. One storey. Original sashes of 6+6 lights with semicircular heads, on both sides of the entrance wing and at the NW end of the main range; C20 replica at the SE end. All are in recessed semicircular arches (rebuilt c1988 at the NW end). Half-glazed door with 2 boarded flush panels and plain fanlight in similar arch at NE end. Fully hipped roof with lead joints. 3 grouped octagonal shafts. The extension is of yellow brick in stretcher bond with a slate roof. Formerly a lodge of Thorndon Hall (qv).
