Description
This granary, located 18 meters south of Wealdcote, dates from around 1800. It is constructed with a timber frame, covered in weatherboarding, and features a peg-tiled pyramidal roof. The building has a square plan and stands on brick piers. On the north side, there is an old door made of boards with beaded edges. The south side has 20th-century double doors and a 20th-century two-light casement window on the west side.
Inside, the granary has slender wall studding with primary bracing and consists of two bays. There is no bracing on the tie-beam, but angle ties are present at the corners. A simple king post supports the apex, with nailed braces leading to the upper square frame, which likely served as the base for a central vent. The walls are additionally strengthened with internal brick infilling up to half their height.
The granary is part of a group that includes Luptons, Wealdcote, The Cottage, The Post Office, and the Tower Arms.
