Description

Little Crix is a house dating from around 1600, with alterations made in the 20th century. It features a timber frame that is partly plastered and partly faced with painted brick in Flemish bond, topped with a roof made of handmade red clay tiles. The house has four bays facing west and includes an 18th-century axial stack located one bay from the right end. There is a 20th-century parallel range at the rear, along with two lean-to extensions that have slate roofs and extend at right angles to the back.

The building is two storeys high. On the ground floor, there are two early 20th-century bays and three 20th-century casement windows. The first floor has one early 19th-century sash window with nine lights and three 20th-century sashes. The roofs are hipped at the left end and gabled at the right. On the left side, there is one early 19th-century sash window with twelve lights on the ground floor and another with nine lights on the first floor. The interior features chamfered axial beams.

On the first floor, there is an Art Nouveau fireplace made of carved wood and cast iron, which was installed during major alterations in 1906. The roof was destroyed by fire, but the close-studded gable at the right end remains charred yet intact. It is believed that the original stack was located in the second bay from the left end, which would have formed a lobby entrance, but this was removed in the 18th century to create an entrance hall.
