Description

This is a drinking fountain built in 1877, located on Market Hill. It is made of stone and stands on a circular plinth surrounded by flower beds and steps. The fountain features two bowls set in shell recesses, each with projecting keystones. There is a string course and a patera. The top has a pediment with an acanthus cornice and foliate panels on the east and west sides. The fountain is inscribed with "1837-1887 V.R." and "presented to the town of Halstead by George Courtauld, 1887."
