Description
This building, located 22 meters south-west of the main range of No. 4 (Chapel Hotel), is a structure of uncertain purpose that now serves as a hall, garages, and a store. It dates back to the early 16th century and has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is timber framed and plastered, with some exposed framing, and is roofed with handmade red plain tiles. It features five bays facing northwest.
An early 19th-century extension is present at the front left bay, which includes a small first-floor room supported on posts and a covered stair to the left, topped with a slate roof. The building is two storeys high. On the ground floor, there is one 18th or early 19th-century sash window with 12 lights. The first floor has one similar sash in the extension and two early 19th-century sashes with 16 lights, featuring crown glass. Additionally, there are three pairs of vehicle doors, one six-panel door, and one plain door below the extension.
The building has a full-length jetty with exposed joists that are horizontally sectioned, and a short weatherboarded dado below the ground-floor window. The upper storey shows exposed studding on three bays, with two 'Suffolk' braces trenched to the outside. The transverse and axial beams are chamfered with mason's mitre stops, while most joists are plastered to the soffits. The upper storey is mostly lined with modern materials, although some original wattle and daub infill can be seen in the right end wall. The building abuts the Chapel Hotel to the northeast.
