Description
This pair of gateposts, dating from the early 19th century, is located 35 metres west-south-west of the stable range of Stisted Hall. Made of cast iron, the posts are set 3 metres apart, creating a gateway that leads from the vehicle approach to the stable block towards the current golf course. Each post is octagonal in shape, featuring flared capitals and squat finials with an ogee profile, topped with floral bud terminations. The overall height of the gateposts is 1.75 metres, although there is minor damage at the top of the octagonal shaft of the western post. These gateposts were likely constructed around the same time as Stisted Hall Park, between 1823 and 1825, and are attributed to the architect Henry Hakewill, who also designed Stisted Hall. A modern wooden gate is not included in this listing.
