Description
A range of four cottages, dating from the mid-19th century, with extensions added in the late 19th century. The cottages are timber-framed and plastered, with some weatherboarding and a slate roof. They face southeast and have two rooms deep, with three axial stacks. There are two 20th-century lean-to extensions with felt roofs to the rear, and a late 19th-century rear wing at the right end, partly built of painted brick with an internal stack. Further 20th-century lean-to extensions with felt roofs are located to the left and at the end of this wing.
The ground floor has early 19th-century sashes of 12 lights at numbers 91 and 93; a late 19th-century sash of 6 lights at number 95; and a 20th-century disused shop window at number 97. The first floor has early 19th-century sashes of 3 + 6 lights at nos. 91 and 93, and late 19th-century sashes of 6 lights at nos. 95 and 97. The doors are four-panel doors set within simple doorcases. These doorcases feature pointed arches inscribed on the jambs with quatrefoil ornamentation at the top corners, and moulded flat canopies. Each return has a weatherboarded dado; the right return has an early 19th-century sash of 12 lights. The rear elevation of number 93 has a 19th-century horizontal sash of 12 lights; the rear elevation of number 95 has two early 19th-century sashes of 12 lights. The structure is shown on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1875; the cottages were not present on the tithe map of 1840.
