Description
The war memorial in All Saints Churchyard, located on School Lane in Longstanton, was erected in 1921. It is made of stone and features a cross on top of a tapering shaft, which stands on a square, two-tiered plinth with a four-stepped base. The upper part of the plinth is inscribed with "To the glory of God," while the lower part honors "the men of Longstanton who gave their lives in the Great War 1914-1918," listing their names. Additionally, it includes the inscription "1939-1945" along with the names of those who fell in the Second World War. Funded by public subscription, this memorial was initially dedicated to the First World War and later acknowledged the sacrifices made during the Second World War. The memorial holds significant historical and cultural value both locally and nationally, representing a notable example of a churchyard cross. It also has group value with the nearby listed church and the medieval churchyard cross.
