Description
The Mill House and attached mill buildings are a house that was formerly the mill house, dating from the mid-17th century, with alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure is timber-framed and plastered, featuring a common brick ridge stack that has replaced the original. It has a plain tiled roof and stands two storeys high, with three timber-framed bays and a slightly modified original three-unit plan. The entrance has a four-panelled door in a lobby entry position, and there are three ground floor and four first floor horizontal sliding sash and casement windows of various sizes.
Inside, there is a sealed red brick hearth with some clunch walling, exposed floor frames, and the original roof. To the north-east, there is a partly demolished mill building that still contains the cast iron mill wheel. A mill associated with Downhall manor is mentioned in records from 1339.
