Description

A late 16th or early 17th century farmhouse, located about a quarter of a mile north of Bushmead Priory, off the road from Little Staughton to Bushmead. The house is timber-framed, now rendered, and originally comprised four units with a lobby entry plan. It has a modern tile roof with a ridge stack. The original structure was one storey high with attics, now featuring two modern gable dormers. There are modern casement windows on either side of a modern gabled porch, and two casements to the east. A two-storey crosswing was added around 1904 to the west, featuring one casement window on each floor.

The interior of the original farmhouse shows evidence of its late 16th or early 17th century construction, with four bays, one open to the roof. One roof truss has been closed, with abutting chimney stacks of stone to the lower courses and red brick to the upper. The roof has been reconstructed, but a portion of one truss remains, featuring a through purlin clasped between rafters and collars. A long, straight brace runs from the wallplate to the purlin. A large inglenook hearth is also present.
