Description
The Cromwell Museum, originally the west end of the Hospital of St John’s infirmary hall, dates from around 1170 to 1190, though it underwent extensive restoration in 1854-6 by Dion Boucicault. The building comprises two bays of a nave and aisles, exhibiting round piers and arches decorated with some ornamentation. The street-facing wall features a portal and five arches above. A bellcote is present. Historically, the building served as the Grammar School and was attended by Oliver Cromwell and Samuel Pepys.
