Description
Abbots Barn is a late 16th century cottage located on the north-east side of High Street in Hemingford Abbots. The building is one storey with attics and features two single-storey wings that face south, one on each side. It is constructed with a timber frame, rough-cast rendering, and colour-washed brick casing up to the first floor. The roof is thatched with a half-hipped main range and includes two ridge stacks. There are two gable dormers with plain tiled roofs and two three-light horizontal sliding sash windows on either side of a central, four-panelled door from the 18th century. Inside, the cottage retains original 16th century framing around the right-hand chimney hood and 17th century brickwork in the left-hand stack.
