Description
Rookery Farmhouse is a farmhouse that possibly dates from the early 16th century and the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the 19th century. It is constructed of timber framing and plaster, with a tarred brick plinth and pantiled roofs, though part of the rear is slated. The building has one storey and an attic, featuring a main east-west range and an earlier cross wing to the west.
On the south elevation, the cross wing has a roof that is half hipped to the south. There is a red brick ridge stack with a round arched recessed brick panel. The farmhouse includes a panelled door, four ground floor windows, one attic window, and two dormer windows, each with three casement lights.
Inside, the exposed timber frame clearly shows the two different building periods. The chimney bay features smoke blackened rafters, indicating an earlier framed chimney, and there is an open hearth with a mantel beam, along with exposed ceiling beams.
