Description
Bunyan Cottage is an early 15th and 16th century farmhouse that has undergone alterations and additions in the 17th century and later. The building features an early 15th century cross-wing with two bays and a 16th century main range, also with two bays and a chimney bay. The timber frame is intact and covered with modern render. The cross-wing and main range were re-roofed in the 17th century and have plain tiles. The gable ends display 17th century bargeboards carved with egg and dart moulding. A 17th century stone stack is located at the gable end of the cross-wing, while a rebuilt red brick ridge stack is present on the main range. The cottage is two storeys high and has modern casements, with the exception of one 17th century four-light casement featuring ovolo mullions and one 19th century horizontal sliding sash in the cross-wing. Inside the cross-wing, there is a large baking oven and an inglenook fireplace. The upper bedroom contains a 17th century garret floor and a plank door to a closet, which has a fielded central panel and ovolo moulding on the side panels. The main range includes two inglenook fireplaces.
