Description
The Stukeleys Country Hotel is a former farmhouse that has been converted into a restaurant and hotel. It features two building periods that form an L-plan. The eastern range dates from the early 18th century and is constructed of red brick, incorporating elements of an earlier timber-framed house on the site. It has a tiled, gabled roof with a ridge stack and an end stack. The building is two storeys high with attics, and it has decorative bands at the eaves height and between the storeys. There are two 18th-century windows and a doorway on the gable end. The western range, built in the mid-18th century, is also made of red brick and has a tiled, mansard roof with an end parapet and a ridge stack. This part is also two storeys high with attics, featuring two dormers and five windows, all fitted with 20th-century fenestration, including one where the original entry was located. Inside, the eastern range has a two-room plan and includes a cellar. Fragments of timber framing can be seen in the rear wall, and each range has an inglenook hearth.
