Description

The gate piers and garden wall to The Castle in Wisbech consist of three pairs of gate piers made of rusticated limestone, dating from around 1656 and resited. One pair of these piers now flanks the main east entrance to The Castle, while the other two pairs, which have sealed entrances, face Market Street and The Crescent. The garden walls are constructed of red brick and are partly topped with reused moulded stone, likely built around 1800. This information is referenced in G. Annis's "A History of Wisbech Castle," published in 1977, and in measured drawings by R. Walker from 1983.
