Description

This is a terrace house built around 1793 as part of the planned Castle Estate circus in Wisbech. It is one of two terraces linked by a pair of houses with a shared pedimented facade dated 1808, and situated near the Wesleyan Chapel of 1803. The house was built by Joseph Medworth, who lived from 1752 to 1827. It is constructed of local brown brick with a slate roof and a side stack.

The house is three storeys high with a basement and features two bays. It has a stone-coped parapet with painted stone bands at the first and second floor levels. There are two second-floor and two larger first-floor windows, each with twelve panes in recessed sash windows, set within cambered arches of gauged red brick and stone cills. A further two ground-floor windows are visible to the right of the entrance, which is approached by two stone steps. The front door is six-panelled, with patterned glazing bars to the fanlight, contained within a painted, double recessed, round-headed arch of gauged red brick. Internally, original reeded window and door architraves remain. The rear outshut has been raised to three storeys and retains an original canted bay window with a tented roof.
