Description
Thatchers is a cottage dating from the late 17th century or early 18th century. After a fire around 1970, the cottage was re-roofed, and the roof of the extension was raised. The building is timber-framed and plaster rendered, featuring a steeply pitched roof covered with re-used red pantiles, which were originally thatched. It has an original gault brick ridge stack with grouped shafts. The layout follows a lobby entry plan, extended by a narrow bay on the left side. The cottage is one storey with an attic, and it has three dormers, all of which are from the 20th century. The ground floor windows are also mostly 20th century, except for one casement window with leaded lights that may date back to the 18th century. The original doorway, which would have been opposite the stack, has been relocated to open into the centre bay. Inside, the timber-framing is made of light scantling elm, and there is a re-used 16th-century hollow and roll moulded main beam in the centre bay.
