Description

The Almshouses, built in 1842, are a memorial to the Marchioness of Bute by Lord North, and were possibly designed by architect Benjamin Ferrey. The structure is made of red brick with limestone dressings and features plain tile roofs with parapet gables. It has three ridge stacks, each with two diagonal shafts, and is a single storey building. The central gable projects and displays the arms of Lord North. There are six chamfered mullioned windows, each with two lights and set in flat arches. Additionally, there are three boarded doors, each in four-centred arches. The building has been converted into a nunnery and a Catholic school.
