Description
No 82 High Street is a cottage from the early to mid-18th century that later became a lodge for Swaffham Prior House after the High Street was diverted. The front wall is made of narrow gault brick with red brick quoins, a band, and surrounds for the door and windows, all in Flemish bond. The side walls are constructed of narrow red and yellow brick in English bond. The roof is steeply pitched and covered with plain tiles, featuring end parapets on kneelers and 19th-century crested ridge tiles. There are end stacks, with the right-hand stack being a later addition. The eaves have a sawtooth cornice and a band at the eaves height on the gable end. The building has an L-plan layout and consists of one storey and an attic. It features two original hipped dormers with later window fittings. The front has segmental arches over two 19th-century cross-frame casements and a central doorway. The rear range is similar in brickwork and roofing but is only one storey tall.
