Description
The Divinity School, built in 1878-9 by Basil Champneys, is a Neo-Tudor building made of brick with stone dressings. It features impressive details and carving. The structure is two storeys high and includes a main hall flanked by two cross-wings. The entrance has a four-bay screen with buttresses and pinnacles topped with crowns. On the ground floor, there are three-light lattice windows, and the hall has traceried windows. Inside, the staircases are adorned with slender columns and vaults. The bronze doors, created by Fred Thrupp in 1888, depict scenes of George Herbert but are no longer in use. The professors' rooms are notable for their fine Art Nouveau fireplaces.
