Description
Christ's College 'X' Staircase, located at No 32 Hobson Street, is a building from the 17th century with an 18th-century front. It is timber-framed and features fine mathematical tiling on the front. The building has two storeys with attics and a wooden cornice with modillions at the eaves. There are three windows and a central doorway that has a four-fielded panelled door with a moulded architrave and a semi-circular fanlight above. This doorway is flanked by carved scroll brackets with dentilled cornices and pediments. To the left of the doorway are two windows, and to the right is a two-light window, all of which have glazing bars. The building also includes two flat-topped dormers and a tiled roof. Inside, notable features include chamfered beams, as well as 18th-century panelling and a staircase.
