Description

This gas lamp, located on Thrift's Walk in Chesterton, Cambridge, dates from the 19th century. It features a cast-iron standard that is tall and fluted, with a surviving ladder-bar. The lamp has curving corner brackets that support a glazed lantern, which is topped with an elaborate central vent and an acorn finial. This lamp is a finely-detailed and unusual example, still functioning with gas and equipped with a double gas-mantle.
