Description
The Church of All Saints is a Grade I listed building located on the north-west side of High Street in Houghton Regis. The church features a striking exterior of chequerwork flint and Totternhoe stone, with battlements. It includes some 14th-century work in the chancel, where the arcades have octagonal shafts with moulded bases and capitals. The remainder of the church is in the Perpendicular style, although most of the windows date from the 19th century. The tower is constructed from Totternhoe stone, and the nave roof, dating from the 15th century, is adorned with angels bearing shields on the intermediate rafters. Inside, there is a monument in the south aisle of a late 14th-century knight, said to be Sir John Sewell, depicted with his feet resting against a lion. The chancel floor features a 15th-century brass memorial to John Waleys, a priest, as well as a brass for Sir William Walley, another priest who died in 1506.
