Description
Heath Manor is a late 16th century or early 17th century building that was altered in the early 18th century, with slight changes in the 19th century. The entrance front is made of red brick and features a hipped old tile roof with modern dormers. The manor has two storeys and attics, with five sash windows; the ground floor windows have flat arches, while the first floor windows were rendered in the 19th century. The central entrance has a six-panel door and a porch supported by modern pillars, topped with a modillion cornice hood, rusticated pilasters, and an entablature that includes triglyphs and mutules. The building has ashlar quoins.
On the garden front, there is a right-hand projection with a Dutch gable that contains a stone door surround featuring a semi-circular arch with a keystone and archivolt, flanked by Roman Doric half-columns. The entablature above has a pulvinated frieze and a cyma recta cornice that is broken forward over the columns, topped with a pediment. A restored chimney stack features carved stone panels.
Inside, the hall has fielded ovolo panelling, and the kitchen includes a timber four-centred bressumer over the fireplace, which has a carved frieze and spandrels. The staircase, dating from around 1640, has a close string with carved newels and turned balusters. Other rooms feature oak panelling and four-centred fireplace arches. The manor was owned by H Brandreth around 1666.
