Description
Bunyan Meeting and School, located at 831 Mill Street, was built in 1849 by Wing and Jackson. This building features a design that is very interesting for its time, resembling the early 18th century style of architect Vanbrugh, and is notable as one of the first revivals of this style. The structure is made of red brick with stone dressings and brick pilasters. It has a pedimented front with a porch that was added in 1876, which includes bronze doors depicting scenes from "Pilgrim's Progress" by the well-known Victorian sculptor Frederick Thrupp. Inside, there is a fine original galleried and panelled interior. Additionally, there is a school addition at the back, built in a similar style in 1866.
