Description
Gates and gate piers located about 400 metres south-east of Wood Norton Hall were constructed around 1897-1898 for the Duc d'Orleans. The gates are believed to have been made by J. Starke Gardner and are crafted from wrought iron and ashlar. The structure features two octagonal stone piers topped with wrought-iron lamp standards that have crown finials. The central pair of carriage gates is hung on wrought-iron piers and is flanked by two pedestrian gates. Above the gates, there is an overthrow that displays three fleur-de-lis on a shield supported by two angels, along with the inscription "Mountjoyce Denis." Initially, these gates were thought to be from the 18th century and to have originated from Versailles, passing through Orleans House in Twickenham.
