Description

The Great Comberton War Memorial is a war memorial erected around 1920. It is made of carved stone and is located at a road junction at the northern end of the village. The memorial features a Latin cross with a tapering octagonal shaft that has broach stops at its base. At the center of the cross, there is a relief carving of a pelican, a Christian symbol, depicted plucking its breast to feed its young. The Latin cross is set on a large square plinth with a tapered dado that has carved decoration at the top. On the south-east face of the plinth, there is a carved inscription that reads:

"TO THE/ GLORY OF GOD/ AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF/ THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO FELL IN THE/ GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918. / (5 NAMES)"

The entire structure stands on a stone platform.
